At the
beginning of the year I resolved to a number of goals, the biggest of these
being a change in career. I have partially succeeded. I’ve move over to a new
school, which has helped tremendously. And while this is not a complete career
change, I feel it is a significant step.
Moreover, I
have begun speaking at conferences, teaching my expertise on mythology and
fairy tales to writers. I think so long as I am pursuing teaching in this vein,
it’s a career change. I plan to add on more speaking engagements, and have
begun toying with the idea of a non-fiction book on mythology and fairy tales aimed
at writers (and we’ll throw students in with that crowd, why not?).
And I’ve
decided to stick Matt in a drawer. I just haven’t been able to get any traction
with him, so I think it’s time. Maybe if I can get the attention of an agent
with one of the other books, I can bring him back out, but for now he’s going
in the drawer. Maybe I’ll go the route of self-publishing when I get the rest
of his books polished, but that’s just the way it’s got to be right now.
