Jack shrugged. "What's wrong with that? I'm thankful for—"
"Barbecue, I know."
"Listen, I know what you're thinking. Go visit family or friends, but here's the thing, most of the time we don't get holidays off. We're on call 365. Weather doesn't wait for anyone. The last thing I need is to have to try and excuse myself to go deal with a tornado in Dubuque, Iowa right as pumpkin pie is coming out. Also, my family lives in Ohio. I'd have to ask someone to cover for me, which is its own headache. No one wants to cover for you on holidays. Best we can do is a couple of hours off, and I'm saving mine for Christmas. Besides, this place makes better pie than my mom."
